Paschen Completes Ping Tom Park Boathouse
Paschen recently wrapped up construction on the Ping Tom Boathouse in Chicago and it was officially opened on Sunday, June 9th. Located in Chinatown at 300 W. 19th St. in Ping Tom Memorial Park, the boathouse is the first of three to be built along the Chicago River. The building is a one-story, three-season building with approximately 2,400 sf of kayak/canoe storage, restrooms, an office, and janitor’s room. The exterior plaza space consists of a metal canopy and a walk to a floating dock. Paschen also added lighting, paving, and landscaping.
The second and third boathouses will be built at Clark Park and River Park. “These boathouses, beginning with this one at Ping Tom Park, will help increase recreational activities and greater enjoyment of all that the Chicago River has to offer residents and visitors,” Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in a statement. According to the same release, the sites were chosen to align with CDOT improvements in providing easier and more consistent river access to runners, bikers, and walkers.
