New CTA Green Line Cermak-McCormick Place STation is now Open
The new $50 million CTA Cermak-McCormick Place Station is now open! After almost 40 years, there will no longer be a gap in rail service on the Green Line between Roosevelt and the 35th/IIT-Bronzeville station.
The most distinctive design element is the tube-shaped canopy that covers the platform. The station includes three entrances and is wheelchair-accessible, with two elevators from the street to the platform. New bike racks were also installed, along with a Divvy Station, new bright lighting and security cameras, and new signage including digital displays.
“This station now changes the economics both for McCormick Place…and most importantly for the residents of South Loop who now can conveniently get from home to work or anywhere they need to go from neighborhood to neighborhood in the city of Chicago,” said Mayor Emanuel at Monday’s ribbon cutting.
